I had heard about King Capisce for a while before I managed to see them. The first time was at the 2015 Tramlines when they played at Shakespeare's. We scrapped in I stood by the speaker at the front and got my ears destroyed by this amazing music that I wasn't really ready for. I told the guitarist afterwards that I thought they were amazing and he gave me a copy of their EP for free.
Here we are a couple of years later and they are playing in the Abbeydale Picture House that has now been taken over by the CADS team. The venue is incredible in its current state of disrepair and I hope it never gets fully refurbished, really.
Support came from Roller Trio, another post-rock, jazz type band. I didn't care much for them. Whereas King Capisce seem to play in service to the music, Roller Trio seemed to go into jazzy-wankery territory.
King Capisce were good as always, going from mellow to intense, twin saxophones in full effect. Really great bass playing too. And they projected images of steam trains onto the cinema screen. What more could you want.
